David, I'm only talking about current production models (the ones you can buy today new!) and here John Chapman makes more original maker A2s.

I don't see any difference, both makers make to order ...

  Maybe so, but JC currently offers 16 different original maker A2s, which no other maker currently offers on their website.

... the patterns displayed are rotated, but all are available.

For those of you who have ordered this jacket be prepared for a "extra" wait in addition to the norm.
I was planning on being in the area on Thursday and was going into the factory to see the finished articles of the new RW coming off the line to hopefully let it sway me into a purchase.

Unfortunately they have hit some technical difficulties according to Alan so several weeks/month or more will be needed to get it right.
Hopefully soon but they do want it to be perfection which is fair enough so I guess we will just have to wait to see it.

And with the sun bursting alive in England at the moment its even getting hard to wear A2's so the wait is not a killer.

Any ideas what the 'difficulties' are? I'd like to think they'd let me know if the wait is extended too far being that I ordered one.

Well I just went ahead and rang. Alan wouldn't say what the difficulties were :? but said it wouldn't take long.
I'm actually really worried that if it's a fault with the leather (the only thing that's new about this jacket) it must be major and I don't like the idea of a substandard jacket. Maybe the stuff's splitting when they sew it? Hopefully it's a logistical problem though.

Very "non Precise" I am afraid.
I received through a swatch last Saturday and the leather did look good.
So if they have the Leather (?) perhaps its the machinery (although would that not affect all jackets) or something with the pattern ?

Not sure if this is a common issue when a new jacket comes out.
When the 33 Werber came out did they have something similar. ??

I guess its best to get it spot on and I am hopeful that a superb jacket will be made.
Time is relative I guess.

Still happy you walked away from the other one ??

Not as happy as I was :( I just can't think of why a technical problem would affect only this jacket. I'm nervous but hoping it has something to do with logistical difficulties, maybe customs?

There are a lot of smart guys in the Forum with inside knowledge
A little mystery to be solved.

Strange thing was when I rang on friday they said they expecting the first batch out the door in a week so thats why I was expecting to see and try on a jacket.
They say a week is a long time in Politics....

Lets hope all is well.
The leather swatch has really got me interested in one.

I know one thing .....for that price if (and its a huge if) I do buy one I will buy it from their store at the Duxford Airshow in July so that I can choose the one I like and not rely on "the next one in my size coming off the rail and into the box" !! We are talking serious family heirlooms now and major business cases & justification to my wife on why I want "another jacket" !!!

cheers

Cliff, I think this is very sensible. Seeing one in the flesh and trying it one is the way to go with this latest offering. I'm still looking forward to the first review of the RW on our forum.

Slightly worrying I think.

Oh no, that means they have doubts...and that means I have doubts.

Cable time me thinks......

Lets hope they sort it out by July when several of the Dead Horse Society fortunate enough to be able to visit Duxford will descend on the ELC stand for our bi-annual fix of leather inhalation and jacket porn !! ;) ;)

It was all in my head. My paranoia and Alan's vague answers and references to 'technical problems' drove me loony. Gary is just trying to allocate the time properly, various orders, various styles, so little time etc. He let me know the leather is superb and there are no problems, just logistical ones. When Alan told me he 'couldn't' tell me about the problems I think he meant because he didn't know rather than because he didn't want to.

All peaceful in my head now

I will be at Duxford on 10th July '10 where I am looking to buy a Cable A2. I will be at the ELC stand at opening time which is usually 10am?
I have emailed Gary/Alan for samples of the 'War horse'

Surely that should have been done before they started selling them. It's called R&D. What sort of outfit are they running ?

i phoned elc and gary told me the reason ther might be a delay is the amount of orders they have recieved last week, but he said it should take uuuuuppp to 4 weeks...  :?: :?:

This isn't true and Nogbat's right, Gary emailed me with quite a lengthy description about how good the leather is and was surprised that I thought there were technical difficulties. He explained that it was merely a delay due to order quantity and allocation of production ( they have loads of other styles too, of course) He told the staff at the factory to tell us there would be a delay and 'Technical problems' was I think Alan's choice of phrase, possibly not the best one for a load of crazies like us :p

Of course, 4- 6 weeks is about their norm after all.
