Dubow "Platon" A-2 Quality

Hello everybody,

So, I'm in the final stretch before confirming with Platon on the size. I'm still hung on whether to get a 42 and stretch-wear it, or getting a 44 and shrink-soak it.

If any of you have one of Platon's in 42 and or 44, I'd love to hear how the jacket fits, stretches etc.

thanks a lot.

Sincerely I would stay away from hoping to modify a brand new jacket from the get go, especially a new Platon. But if you have to, maybe the shrink-soak is more safe to play with.

Can you share your measurements and fit images so we can focus on the right answer?

I have a size 42, love it but would never try to stretch it. Mind you the sleeve have creased quite a bit and this type of leather will not stretch back to position.

Hope this helps!

Yes, please don't try and shrink-soak it.
Wearing in the rain or using a spray bottle on the leather to bring out the grain is fine, but a bath soak.... Not a great idea.

Id er on the larger size. If anything it will shorten over time, more noticeably in the sleeves.

As has been alluded too before, size is one thing, but the pattern/ cut of the jacket is another.
If the pattern does not fit and you dont have the option 'customise', no amount of prayers or fiddling will change that.

I’ve found that the sizing on the one that I just acquired runs smaller that what’s normal for a size 48, it fits more like a small 46, or a large 44. I would consider going with the 44 if I were you.
Here’s the measurements on the 48:
Shoulders …… 19.25 inches
Chest …………… 24.5 inches
Arms…………… 26. inches
Back length …..25. inches

I just went back and found your first post Wedge, you say you're 5'7" and 176Lbs

My 42 has room to layer with a light sweater, although I usually only wear a T-shirt under. Its very comfortable in the shoulders and under the arms.
Im circa 5'10 158 40" chest - I am 100% sure a 44 would be too large on me although lengths would be good.

I'm a small buff guy. 5'7" 176Lbs. Army fit, wide shoulders.

Chest 42" (in between 42" and 43")
Waist 39"

The current A-2 I have is made of thick horse from US Authentic and measures as such (I took better measurement than last time):
Shoulder to shoulder - 18 3/4
Arm pit to pit - 22 1/8
Back length - 25"
Sleeves - were way too long so I had them trimmed.

As it is I can easily fit a sweater and a shirt and can even fit an RAF wool turtle neck, it's snug but it fits.

In my new A-2 I'm looking for a vintage fit. Where I can fit a base layer undershirt + shirt (usually flannel or wool like Buzz's CPO shirt).

Platon suggested I take a 44. Being advised to take a size up already during my previous purchase with US Auth. and hating jackets that are either boxy or too large (the case of my present jacket), I doubled checked to make sure as the 42 looks like it could fit me. But in light of other members' comments regarding the smaller actual size of Platon's jacket, I'm back to square one.

Here's a picture of the US Auth jacket so you can have a better idea of my body type.

I don't like how the current jacket looks when open

Closed it's almost ok but the waist is a tag too long for my liking.

Shoulders used to be that boxy, the sleeves have been trimmed but there's still room.

I would agree--they run on the small side, even for original sizing.

Whats too long? Platon will not custom fit/tweak... A strait Platon 44 could be a bit longish...
The sleeves were 27" , my arms are short. 24". Most of my cloths with standard sleeve length are all too long.

I will most certainly have to get the Platon sleeves trimmed.

Also while we're in the Platon talk. Any of you knows where he sources his Japanese made TALON zippers?

The US AUTH zipper just broke, literally a couple of hours ago as I was taking measures. I'd like to replace the whole zipper, but all I can find online are very bad repros.
