Most definitely with you on that Burt. 'Traditional snug' just doesn't do it for me. Unlike Navy jackets with bi-swing backs and underarm gussets, A-2 jackets by design are fairly restrictive. On the other hand the very nature of the A-2 qualifies it to be the most beautiful jacket in the known universe. Had to get that off my chest.

cool photo here... an early single nose gun B17F with the later cheek gun mount upgrade modifications added. a lot of paint loss... flights through rough weather and a lot of hail?
the gentleman kneeling with the extra dark flight cap... interesting! any reason for his cap to be so much darker than the other OD caps? would this be the "Enlisted Ranks serge blue crusher cap"?
