Hi Socalal,
Would you accept a personal check for the Flightsuits/G&B jacket that you have listed for sale? I've been a member here forever, although I never post much. You are more than welcome to wait until my check clears before shipping so that there is no risk to you in the transaction...
Hi Guys;
I recently cleaned a ratty old thrifted G1 with saddle soap and then treated it with Lexol. It has developed a bit of a whiteish haze in places, which I assume to be saddle soap residue that I failed to fully remove. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Tthe haze that is - not the...
Hi Guys;
Seem like it has been ages since I posted here. A few days ago I thrifted what looks to be an issued G1. Unfortunately all identifying information, patches and manufacture labels have been removed. The jacket is a nice thick goat skin in a somewhat lighter shade than the current ones...
OK guys - here's a quick update on the CWU. I washed it in a regular old washing machine on the gentle cycle (cool water) using Woolite. Took it outside and gave it a final rinsing inside and out using the garden hose to make sure all the detergent residue was gone. Air dried it turned inside...
Thanks SS. I'll try to come around and contribute a little more often as Fall approaches. Not much need for jackets right now down here in the deep south. As a matter of fact, our seasons are typically Summer, followed by a six week rainy season and back to Summer again.
Tom
Now granted, that's partially my fault but I'm more of a USGI 1911 and military watch collector who just shows up here occasionally for jacket advice. Speaking of which, can I wash a Nomex CWU-46/P? May on the gentle cycle with Woolite and hang dry?
Thanks guys.
Kindest Regards,
Tom
Hi Guys;
I came across a green nylon Alpha deck jacket with corduroy collar the other day in a thrift store. It had CNAP and M-1234 (I forget the actual numbers) stenciled in white on the back. Two questions - is this an issue jacket or Navy wannabe marketing ploy? And, any ideas how the...
One is a horsehide A2 purchased cheap from USW a good many years ago. It could probably stand to shrink nearly a whole size. The other is a goatskin "Indy" style of unknown origin, but a nice, solidly built jacket. The latter only needs the sleeves shortened a bit.
Tom
Thanks guys. I quite like the chocolate and beer idea, not to mention that results are guaranteed and it may prove less risky than an attempted hot water shrink! Seriously though, once I get an idea in my head I'm usually not satisfied until I give it a try, so I'll probably take your other...
Hi Guys:
For those of you who have had success in shrinking leather jackets by wetting them and then drying them in the dryer, how wet did you get them and how long did you dry them? Did you use hot water? Dry them in a pillow case or something similar? Any special do's or don'ts?
Thanks and...
Thanks Guys! I'm more of a wearer than a collector and plan to use this one for hunting, fishing, outdoor activities, so keeping it NOS is not really an issue. I just wanted to make sure that they were not meant to be dry cleaned only. I appreciate the info.
Best regards,
Tom
Hi Guys;
I need to wash a NOS M65 that has accumulated some storage dust and dirt. Any special instructions that I should follow? The label just says something like "return to laundry for cleaning to preserve water repellancy" or something similar.
Thanks and Kindest Regards,
Tom
Yes - a very interesting thread. Thanks for the link. I double checked mine and not a hint of a manufacturers name anywhere. Maybe the makers started leaving their names off after the law suit?
Thanks - Tom
