The problem with war and fascination with war is that the bad shit is superceded in our minds with images like this! Look at it! The beauty- the adventure! Amazing!

One of my favorite war books is The World Within War by Gerald Linderman. He talks about this weird juxtaposition of the awesome and beautiful with the horrible- sometimes occuring at the same time.

I am not sure I see the point of posting pictures of a Waffen SS officer, a war criminal, enjoying a peaceful retirement. But then again, that's me.
Hardly a war criminal- he was tried as one for using men out of uniform behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge. He had an amazing life.
