WWII German winter parkas

Oh yes! I had forgotten this film... unconsciously I was probably also influenced by Clin Eastwood and Richard Burton.

I would also have a hard time assuming the camouflage motif. But that's a very personal opinion and if I didn't care what people thought then it would be my choice.

I'll be completely honest Kermit, this isn't a parka that I just waltz around town in. We have a cottage/cabin up in the mountains (over 430 metres ASL) and that's where I wear it, and also for hunting, and also down in town when winter hits and I need something for shoveling snow and working outdoors. They are very practical parkas but I wouldn't use one for going to Starbucks for a coffee.

These Wehrmacht/W-SS parkas are workwear, not for poncing around in. But like I said if WWIII hit this would be the coat I take out the door. Terrifically functional.

just pulled the trigger on one of those "where eagles dare" parkas. the price was right, even with shipping to the us. also, having looked at other offerings, the wed version appears to be right up there with the best of the others. I will likey apply a water proof spray to it on both sides, so that in the event that it gets wet from rain or snow, it won't get the interior insulator blanket wet and heavy. more when it arrives. btw: the size 40 is 23" pit to pit, and the size 42 is 24" pit to pit.

I reckon if Vic ordered an "Eagles Dare" one it has to be SoF Burt. I can't think of another company offering them as they're not technically "historically accurate".

As suggested by Smithy, I will send an email to ATF to ask if there is any hope that the parka will be available again.

If we assume that the ATF parka is no longer available. The reproduction of SM wholesale seems to be of excellent quality... but I live in France and with the shipping and customs fees, the parka would cost me at least 500 euros... which is too much for me.

The parka sold by Nestof seems not too bad (except maybe the brown color ?), what do you think ?

Thought I'd put this in here, as it's a very famous photo but a good one, showing the M1942 version (probably medium to heavy weight issue). You can see how the elbows are missing the reinforcement patches that the M1944 had. Good photo though.

On a side note it’s interesting that they painted their potato masher grenades white but they hadn’t gotten around to painting their helmets white yet. I guess that happened soon because it was 1942 and they started painting them right around that time .

The parka's hood was made large to fit over the helmet -- instant camouflage.

I’ve been trying to see what pattern camo parka they had by looking at the area inside the hood but its impossible to tell .

Guys remember that once totally painted white, its hard to reverse the process, if lets say the conditions have change over a few days. Your stahlhelm is now standing out and your head is in it!!!
