The Collar/Windflap/Zipper intersection- various repros compared to original Aeros- 21996,18775 and 15142

The funny thing is how easy it would be for Ken and Aero of Scotland to fix some of these things. Adjust the sewing machines, put the zipper in correctly and put the "X" in the right place! Just with those little things you have a much better repro! Fly me to Scotland- I'll do a consultation- I'll be your Jacket Whisperer...

Maybe we'll start making them this way to be the only "TRUE" repro

still the outlier, the anomaly and as such is proof of nothing. What about answering the questions from THIS thread about why the zippers are installed incorrectly?
DD

The A-2 has a centre zipper, correct?
If the collar edge of the jackets numbered in this thread sit behind the zipper teeth on the RH side and ahead of the zipperteeth on the left then the collar won't sit symetrically
Simple geometry, more noticeable, but noticeble nevertheless, when the collar studs are done up
Aero's machinists have too much pride in their work to replicate construction errors not withsanding the fact that we follow the original 1938 zipper/collar edge which has a fairly pronounced off set collar due to just that positioning. Somehow it looks OK with the stand collar

On the subject of collar errors, is this standard? or were you slavishly following the stitch pattern of an original Aero "Friday afternoon" A-2

Re stitching the final zipper "Top" stitch the wrong way up, lining up, spool thread on the leather side,
I've always felt this is the cheats way, easy but never as sharp as the correct way when done properly and well, I'll never resort to that
Howeverr, Morgan has been doing her's this way for several months, as far as I'm aware Paula and Gail have both followed her lead. As Christine is on light duties due to health issues I've no idea of her feelings on the subject but I can't see her changing 32 years after learning the style
Still not a fan but I must agree less iffy stitchlines hence less seconds

If you're replicating an original Aero why not make it the way it was? You are headed down Avirex lane with this philosophy. If EVERY Aero of the 21996, 18775 and 15142 contracts was made this way is it really a "construction error"? Don't be silly- admit it is wrong and fix it! EVERY original Aero of these contracts was made this way! EVERY one! Make a repro- your customers are paying for "authenticity"!

You'd be suprised how many buyers comment on/question the offset collas of our 1938 despie the fact it's mentioned in thr webtext
It is, on the other hand, our best sellinmg A-2

I'm flattered by your extensive collection of Aero close ups, you've got a fuller set than I have
I better warn you though, I'm not a big fan of obsessive stalkers

Collars are crooked on a ton of different contracts, that is not the point. The collars on your jackets are installed incorrectly, as are the zippers. This is not a debatable point really, the first several pages of this very thread illustrate the incorrect installation quite plainly.

It’s called human error. Never said I don’t have them, But then I also never claimed to be “the most accurate repro available” either, so there is that.

It wouldn't have cost $5 to bin the collar and make another one instead of fitting it and thinking "What the f*ck"

“...Combat crew finish is meant to acknowledge the rushed nature in which these jackets were made during WWII. This is why we don’t attempt laser perfect stitching. “

Pretty clearly spelled out, wouldn’t you agree?

?
What does your 1938 collar have to do with my question? Do you still not see the problem with the way your zips are sewn in on the NON collar stand contracts?

"...rushed nature in which these jackets were made during WWII"

I never said 12 hours in WWII, I said one operator doing ALL jobs start to finish, now takes that long. Are you actually this thick? Really?

And last but certainly not least, your own words..."It wouldn't have cost $5 to bin the collar and make another one instead of fitting it and thinking "What the f*ck"

I mean, how much would it have cost to bin this entire jacket and make and send out a well made one?

Seems to have been a problem with the spool tension should have been spotted at QC, if this made it's way to Thurston, I'm sure Carrie sent it back to be fixed
