Surely prohibited from the US not the whole world ?

So you think maybe just from the US, John, and Japan will be fine? That does sound like a complicated postal system.

Really we are just waiting for an Italian member to drop by, and say nah, it's all bollocks, don't worry about it.

There are eBay sellers who claim they have had leather goods confiscated...so I guess it can't be all "bollocks"? But yes, some advice from our Italian members would be helpful not just for now but also for future reference.

I'm not sure about this free trade between EU members; for example, whereas it's likely legal in some EU countries, hardcore porn is still (I believe) outlawed in the UK, so importing it from another EU country would not be allowed. So some restrictions must apply even in the EU. I also wouldn't have thought it would make any difference to Italian customs whether the jacket was sent from the US or Japan.

My advice is to telephone abay and ask them for a way to go forward. If they suggest re-listing the jacket that might be the best option. Ask them for a re-listing with no fees.
After all the jacket went very cheaply, you might get more next time around.

another message from the buyer:

"they do not confiscate the jacket. Sometimes they stop it and request me to pay some euros related to the content of the package. Please, when you send the packet, write "gift" on the box in order me not to pay anymore. But don't worry, no problem for sending and receiving leather goods to italy."

But what to believe?

I thought that by now, Carlo would have pulled up in his jeep, with his little dog, and given you the lowdown.

Until then ...... stall. ;)

Miles..

You were happy to take the bids...I think you are compelled to ship, just do so in a fashion where Paypal offer seller
protection. That will be part of the user agreement for your country. It will name the very methods covered. If it does
get returned via surface (they should not destroy it or seize it) you are covered if the buyer makes a claim. Keep all
your documentation from the seller and even confirm with Paypal.

I sent the jacket on Monday. John Chapman advised me that he had had no problems so I pretty much wrote what he did on the forms, just adding the word "Italian".

I don't think I would have been obligated to send the jacket. I think this would have been one of those instances where eBay would have sided against the buyer, as in attempting to import leather goods it would appear he was trying to do something unlawful.

And who's going to risk shipping an A-2 to our long-suffering member Alberto Ulmi (who sadly failed to add any input in this thread when one would have thought he might have been in a position to do so) now?!

Miles..

I think eBay would have offered something vague, ambiguous and bi-partisan that maintained the sale and the final value fee.
I am sure you will have no problems. And the buyer will be VERY pleased with the jacket. He ought to be!!

Keep us updated..
