Well one is funny...but the other is still not.
Unless you count the worthy's snickering together from upon high.

One question comes to mind- why even bother?

So it will rival or surpass this?

That's good news.

I'm sorry, I still don't get it. How about for my benefit you just tell the rude joke you felt it important enough to say you were going to tell but thought the better of?

The usual sad cliche about men and sheep. Very childish I know.
There are similar ones about sheepfarmers here in the UK.

What I find interesting is the price range in both competitors
One says £800-£1000 the other says £825

I wonder what is in that price? What makes the bulk of it?
Is it he price of leathers or the work for accurate reproduction?

It's anyone's guess - but one of the figures mentioned, you could discuss that with Jon, today.

The higher figure, I guess they need to factor in tea and biscuits for the consortium - but it must be quite difficult to
put a final production cost/retail cost on something that doesn't seem to exist yet.

 Don't forget that the consortium will need a large premises, to contain their egos.

Fashion mark-up.

A while back I bought a full size sheepskin pelt for my dog to sleep on.
Tanned by Fenland, a supplier to jacket makers in the past. It wasn't expensive.

Sadly those were the days. Fenland are gone and sheepskin prices have doubled.
I bought some skins from Andrew Tinnion for £3.50 per sq. foot. I think the price might be 5 or 7 now.

So, AM, Jon and Eastman all using Devonia these days ?
I hope Aero aren't still using US sourced shearling

Can't speak for the entrepreneurs but Aero use Australian skins and have for some time.

There still seem to be plenty of traditional leather working outfits in the Czech Republic and Hungary.
This guy makes made to measure WWII stuff by hand, like these German para boots.

I would imagine old style tanneries are still in operation there.

Just read this whole thread (there's 20 minutes I'll never get back) and felt compelled to say a couple of things:

1) More and better choice of jackets = good for us, the consumer

2) Business is business, I'm afraid that once you start being sentimental or "friendly" then you find that you lose out to those who are more ruthless. To those of you who disagree - I've got a nice bridge that I could sell you :D

3) Any publicity is good publicity - both parties have garnered a ton of free publicity here (and elsewhere) and, whatever the slant, it has only served to raise awareness of their products.

4) These are (VERY) niche products - surely there is loads of room in the market for both? I know for a fact that Aero (and, to an extent, Eastman) are flat out trying to fulfil orders (as are Goodwear and others) so there must be the demand.

Finally - they are "just jackets" (sacrilege I know) let's all lighten up and see who actually gets to market first and which jacket we prefer. I know that, if I had the money and inclination, I would have one of each!

I'll just go and pull on my flame proof pants now :D

Cheers,

Is your real name Newt?
Not in agreement, but that makes the world go 'round.

I like the sound of this guy;

""If you live on the east coast and decide to call me at 7 am your time please go back to school and study longitude before you order. I am a custom boot and shoe maker who makes these one at a time by hand. I am also the only one in the world who bothers to spend weeks researching these products, days making patterns for them, and thousands of dollars in trial and error samples. If you are in a hurry please see if you can convince the manager at your local walmart to stock this line of footwear.

I wonder if he would take on my 1936 pattern flying boot project.
