I hope Burt doesn't mind my piping up Jeff but it's a Simmons Bilt Irvin. They're not a 100% accurate replica but if you were after an Irvin inspired jacket like the rag top classic car crowd love to roar around in, this one of Burt's looks a zillion times nicer than an ALC or Cirrus.

Foot of snow here. Took the kids for a walk up the road to go ice skating. I knew I'd be sitting on my arse watching and duly went for a Canada Goose parka as it was blowing and sitting in the snow by a large thick body of ice is a sure sign it'll be nippy. Sheepskin lined boots to match.

Sure it's modern but a Canada Goose never fails to please me with just how warm they keep you. I could have sat there without moving being beautifully warm for 24 hours.

Not vintage but if you live somewhere where it gets seriously cold they're a bloody great bit of kit.

Yeah, modern stuff is sometimes the way to go. Stomping around the Cornish coast and poking around in caves isn’t the place for leather or sheepskin. The faithful Berghaus fleece and Gore-tex did the job yesterday at one of my favourite spots, Chapel Porth near St. Agnes. Wheal Coates, old tin and copper mine, in background.

Today I gave myself a Christmas present- a Star 55j14 size 46 almost brand new. I've been storing it for 6 months in a cloth bag inside a plastic bin but I'm taking it out today to wear it as a regular. It is really mint- almost brand new (Jorge gauge I'd say!)- and I was afraid to wear it. But I'm old and I don't plan on selling it so I might as well WEAR IT right?
