Why not to open VLJ for guest to read?
This is not a lot of people looking ,communicate on this forum.
VLJ is very close community which lose with time activity.
This opening can make more moving on forum.

Hi, Guys,

It's more to do with managing the forum behind the scenes and security - It's unbelievable the lengths some will go to to disrupt a forum - just because they can.

At least this way I can keep track of when we're being probed.

Cheers,
Bill French

:D This just reminded me of the bizarre events of a few years ago. Good reason to keep it this way.

I agree with all the responses to the Tamoko's thread. Leave the forum as it is. If people want to read the posts they simply need to join!

Re: Open VLJ.

The FL has a wider appeal than our forum as it covers a much wider range of topics, appealing to men and women. Our site is much more specialised so there are going to be fewer posts and fewer people on line. It does sadden me that such a small proportion of registered members regularly post and many never post at all. It is worth remembering that threads on the FL about vintage wartime jackets often get fewer posts than they do here. Posts about repro Aero civi jackets tend to get many posts on the FL as there are many more members there interested in such jackets, but fewer interested in military originals or repros.

the reason Fedora Lounge is open to guests is because they know it makes your eyes go funny after you close the page!
once you register you get the sunglasses and you are good to go!

I was in the Air Force years ago and always wanted a leather jacket that I could wear that was a part of that history.I had bought a Cooper a-2 jacket in the 80s(still have it)but it wasnt quite the fit or style that I was looking for.I joined the old forum and ended up buying a horsehide jacket and now own 3 from members of this site.I also own civie 30s,40s style jackets from reading FL,and this site. Most of FL sometimes isnt too my taste, but sometimes I see clothes and learn the old ways of making Fedoras(have 5)and other clothes. My interest is the history of quality.I admire your knowledge and appreciation of the jackets and the people who gave their lives for their and our freedoms.I am just as excited when you guys get a new jacket or piece of clothing as I am when I get mine.I also like dealing with the members on this site because I know I will be getting a good deal and I am dealing with honest forthright, and decent men.

Ditto about buying from other members...When I joined, I owned one ELC and a lot of Coopers and other misc. A-2s. My tastes have changed, and now I own half a dozen ELCs, 3 or 4 Aeros, a couple Real McCoys, but still no Goodwear

I do not understand why guests do not have the right to read, before they are registered and can write?
Did anybody pay before he saw product? FL was only example, this is a lot of very "special" forum that are open for read.

It was posted above that the closed format allows for easier defense against spammers, etc.

It's not like registration is difficult, after all.

Re: Open VLJ.

VLJ is not, primarily, a clearinghouse - ie, a place to learn and exchange information. Fedora Lounge is a clearinghouse. VLJ sometimes fulfills that role, but it is, first and foremost, a clubhouse.

We're intimate, almost entirely male, share a love of things technical and military and the culture that goes with them, and people find out about us mostly thru word-of-mouth - cybernetically, that means a VLJ'er clues you in. There's no recruiting. It's not a formal edict from the mods - it's just understood.

When I want a wider crowd to interact with, I go to FL. It does things VLJ really shouldn't try to do. I think we're best off keeping it a clubhouse.
