well, I got the US authentic a long time ago, so I don't know what they are putting out now, and the GW I got was one of Johns early test jackets but seeing your a car guy..it's like comparing am F-150 to a corvette...very different. Johns work is far superior.

Had thought about doing this as a chronological/timeline photo, a listing is a good start... especially since Bill Kelso has upped the ante! ;)

Schott steerhide (seal) "A-2" -- 1979
Original AN-J -- acquired around 1983
Flight Apparel Industries steerhide (seal) A-2 -- 1985 (talk about thin hides)
Avirex horsehide "McArthur" (russet) A-2 -- 1990
Avirex B-3 -- 1992 not the best repro
Eastman RW-1401 horsehide (russet) A-2 -- 1994
Eastman RW-27752 horsehide (seal) -- 1998
Flight Suits "mock" AN-J-3 goatskin (seal) -- 1999 - had a modern G-1 made without the mouton collar -- Bill French's is a much nicer example.
Flight Suits/Gibson & Barnes horsehide (seal) A-2 -- 2000
Original Monarch G-1 MIL-J-7823 goatskin (seal) 2000
Original N-3B MIL-P-6279J 2000
Flight Suits/Gibson & Barnes goatskin (russet) A-2 -- 2002
WW2 Impressions Winter Combat Jacket (tanker) -- 2003 adding it because so many pilots used it
Eastman Star steerhide (seal) -- 2004
Good Wear house W535ac29190 A-2 - not sure what the hide is (seal) -- 2012 - though the year manufactured is earlier, pretty sure this is one of John's prototypes

Oh yeah, I also have a modern German flight jacket buried in storage -- bought off e-Bay and the seller advertised the size a little too liberally. I kept it for the ranks, but have never worn it.

Also have a post-war vintage, Norwegian-made M-43, a (fairly) modern issue Navy Pea Coat, and a late 90s M-65 in woodland camo.

Jeeze -- don't ask me to add up the expense, I'll probably cry!

Some bizarre collections going on here. It's amazing how the human brain collates information. Well done Platon for dragging us out of our shells by dangling a jacket carrot. Who will it be, and why ? Heads down for the flak !

Just the one high-end repro;

Bill Kelso house jacket, Roughwear-pattern. 42, seal. A present from my family for getting healthy and losing weight. I went from 146kg/320lb to 75kg/165lb with a lot of work and sensible eating. The whole way along, I told myself that if I lost the weight, a high-end A-2 repro would be my reward, and my family made it so!

Gotta love a 'real' A-2 repro.

I also have various Coopers and mall jackets which were art-fodder!

Cheers,
Matt
