Need some help identifying this jacket as I can’t seem to find much by a google search. Maker tag is hard to get a full photo of. This is what it says but can’t see. TYPE B-9 isnt exposed it’s sewn and folded under the naked tag. I’ll attach pics, very similar to the B15 in appearance. Had anyone ever seen one or have one out there? The B9’s ive seen are a lot longer and not cut like a flight jacket. I appreciate any guidance from the field.

TYPE B-9

No expert on such things, but they don’t look like AAF knits to me. It ain’t no B-9. I would guess post-war civilian jacket.

I think the jacket has had another label put open it, looks like a post war civilian jacket?

All I could find this far was that APPLEMAN was a contractor for the military as well. I haven’t looked into what they have made yet. I appreciate everyone’s input, pretty much confirming my thoughts it’s a civilian build of some sorts.

Truly appreciate all the replies and knowledge provided this will be a new work jacket. Luckily it came my way from a relative who frequents estate sales and thought it was a military jacket I may like. Decent enough jacket luckily as a beater for working in the garage or yard

Any way you are interested in selling this item? My great grandparents were the owner’s if Appleman Manufacturing. I was doing a search and came across your post. I was actually more interested in some historical photos. I wanted to obtain some things for my mom. She’s 77 and I thought she would get a kick out of it. She has mentioned the made bomber jackets and pea coats amongst other things. Anyway, when she was a child she would often go stay with her grandparents in the city. If you are interested- please let me know. Although, you would probably want more than I had in mind. Again, I was looking for photos and ended up here :)

It's a B-15 type jacket, nothing like a B-9 at all. Probably a civilian one in military color / fabric and design.
Still a nice find, and looks to be a well made jacket.

Very close in detail to a B15 i can see the similarities when next to my Eastman B15.The jacket is in great condition, I sent some additional pictures to CyndiSue, wish I knew when her family were making these jackets. Been doing some searches and I’ve found a couple Appleman field jackets as well, but that’s about it.

Almost looks like the same label, just with the top and bottom lines folded so they do not show the TYPE B-9 designation.

The Type B9 on my jacket is folded at the top and concealed by the cloth hanger tab, I sent a rough picture to Cyndi. I’ll see if I still have it. There isn’t a size tag on mine. I’d estimate it at a size 42.

I emailed the original poster today. My mom said her grandparents had 3 red child sized versions made for the granddaughters in 1949 or 1950- at that time they had a contract with the government. She isn’t sure how long before that they were making them. She said she has an article somewhere and will let me know when she comes across it. She was pretty speechless before taking a trip down memory lane...then called her brother and sent him the pics.
