Which button you like for your A-1 (please show pics)
and which button you think is the correct? (period accurate)
the solid color one? or the two shade color?

This one for my money.

Given the date, I'm more inclined to believe that at least some of these would have been bakelite (or a similar phenolic) rather than horn.

Platon, have you got a good source of capeskin?

thinking of offering 2 colors. Seal and russet. Or only russet, I don't know. Any ideas?

Only missing the buttons.

yes it is
but that movie is black & white originally
and if you see it, the jacket could have easily been russet
I think it was russet

Paul…hope this helps…

From "Lost Worlds" , A-1 Jacket (AN6501 contract 1931) the final year
of AAC procurement, The Navy & Marines continued to use the A-1
throughout the 1930s".

According to LW, the higher placement of the front pockets was the early
version. They also offer the A-1 in a olive drab color , which I have, mine
was made by Willis & Geiger & is not as stiff leather like the LW version.
Cheers,

Please don't go down the high pocket route (unless you offer the low option too).

Careful, big claim...my imagination is strong where A-1s are concerned. Do you have a small sample that you could send along to gauge weight/drape/texture please?

It is difficult to see the colours in the original images of course, but the Suit Up image and the Mirelli Brothers A-1 that came up on EBay earlier in the year are a good guide for colour - the latter was a darker russet (rather than brighter russet). Personally, I wouldn't touch a seal A-1.

The Lost Worlds jacket has resin buttons I think.

This is my next jacket pending this fall or the early part of next year.

Courtesy of Mr. John Chapman . I have opted for buttons instead of snaps
at the bottom last two.

Not in that hide 2jakes...
I'm surprised that John is now offering the buttons at the waist, he had declined to offer them previously. It helps having the button hole machine I guess.

Bring it on... you got a high bar to jump though...
Don't use cheap buttons. I'll get some of the back buttons in a bit.
PLATON - wanna buy it?

Oh, I know. Everybody knows. Just thought I'd show PLATON what some of the best A-1's look like. Maybe not the most accurate - don't care - but certainly one of the most beautiful made. And the buttons are lovely as well.

I requested the buttons at the waist & was given the ok . As far as
the hide ,sizing , fit & anything else , that has been taken into account.
Production will begin on my pending time schedule & after both of us have
agreed on what can or can not be done. Mr. Chapman sent me one
of his jackets for me to try on & see how it fits. That's A-1 service in my book !
