That's what it looks like, and early ones don't have pockets.

It's a D-1 alright. I have a Perry D-1 with no pockets.

If you like D1's, The Few do several variants [ about 4 ], with and without pockets.

That's a good question. I used to own a SAAD D1 and it also had the chain outside. I guess on Shearling jackets it is more practical to attach it on the outside.

Yes, this is an early D-1. Ones without pockets appear from time to time on Ebay, though they are far less common than those with pockets.

Maybe it's to avoid having the chain against the neck in cold weather.
