Thanks for that. Yes, clearly seems to have been modelled after the Bean. Even the colour probably qualifies as "champagne tan". The main differences seem to be the type of leather used and the shape of the pockets and pocket flaps...the cuffs also seem slightly different. Darn, I really shoulda bought it!

I tried one on my last travel to Japan, great to look at but the leather is stiff and cardboard like..wouldn't like to wear it.

I plan to do a comparison with the earlier ELC A-1 in steerhide, also a 46, and write/shoot it up as a review.

Is there anybody who doesn't look smashing in an A-1? It might be the universal style.

In my perfect future world, the A-1 would be everybody's go-to top layer. It would be jeans for your torso, capable of dressing up or down, with anything underneath from shirt, tie and vest for the gents to a tank top for the ladies...or perhaps less, with shirt-weight broadcloth models with button tab waist and cuffs and the pockets at chest level.

A-1s could be made in every color, fabric, skin and weight conceivable...poplin? ripstop? mylar? jersey? natural shantung silk? royal blue naugahyde? faux alligator? hair-on cow?

They were reasonable before the advent of the Euro, now the prices are intergalactic. [£1700] I used to have the B-3. It was only £350 ... All the leather is veg tanned aniline even the sheepskin.

I have an Eastman in seal Capeskin actually and it's wonderful, day and night compared to BR talking about the leather.

Just got an A-1 from GW. I have to go to work soon but will try and get some photos up next week. Its a great jacket. The cape is really nice...
