I joined the Canadian army in 1990 and we were issued ground sheets/shelter halves that smelled very much like vomit. They all did. No doubt it was off gassing of the rubber coating used in their manufacture. Items stored next to those ground sheets could certainly absorb some of that memorable...
Just received another Canadian type IV flight jacket. This one dated 1981 and in pristine condition with an amazingly thick mouton collar and warm wool insulation. I noticed that another member stated in an old post that he didn’t think these jackets were suitable for civIlian use, but I...
It’s in fantastic condition, all the zips are functional and the pen holders are flexible and undamaged. They actually appear to be made of thin leather. There’s even a hood stored in the collar that is trimmed with fur. I was so excited when I realized that it fit me and I knew it had to come...
It‘s such a great feeling to take something vintage and actually use it, and connect with the past. However, I know that I will likely never be able to replace it should it get damaged, therefore I’ll only war it occasionally.

Very nice! I would be very pleased to find one like that. The zipper doesn’t look too old but I could only guess on the age. Hopefully someone has some knowledge to share.
I've always wondered where that stereotype of “oot and about” originated because I've never heard anyone in Canada pronounce it that way.... not even Newfies. LOL
Today I’m in a shearling lined hybrid G1/A2 goatskin jacket by LL Bean from the 1980's as best as I can determine. It’s quite warm in the body but at -25 C I did feel the coolness in the arms as they are insulated with a synthetic material. It would be nice if the arms were lined with shearling...
The eagle badge was worn on hats of the RAF, RCAF, and possibly other commonwealth nations. A similar badge was also worn by pathfinder air crew but that’s probably not what this is.
