VMF-312 USS Bataan - Korean War

This is an amazing website! I was referred to it from a collector on the U.S. Militaria Forum (http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/). Here is what I am looking for:

I am looking for a picture of a jacket /w patches that would have been worn by a pilot in the USMC squadron VMF-312 based on the USS Bataan (CVL-29) during the Korean War. My interest is in the position and the spacing of the patches. I would appreciate any info or direction on this.

Thanks!

Gone, but not forgotten.
I'll just brighten up the thread a little, while we wait for a response .....

... and check out the collection at Lost Worlds, they show several patched jackets from the period.

Hi JFB, welcome.

If only Skeeter were here he'd know the answer to that for sure!

Andrew,

Glad to be onboard! Since I am a new here, who was Skeeter?

Thanks for responding to my note! :)

Stu,
Great picture! Help me out, I'm a little confused on the "VMF" vs "VMA" designations. :?:

No problem with the scan. The patchwork on the jackets is clearly visible. Seems that the position of most of the squadron patchs is on the upper right of the chest, however, some are on the left instead. The pilot on the lower right (kneeling) has a shoulder patch. From your original, can you see if this is a patch for the ship?

I can't thank you enough for this!

Most appreciative,

John

UPDATE:

Well, it's bee awhile but I have received invaluable information from many reliable sources. Finding repro squadron patches for VMF-312 - specific to the time period - has been all but impossible.

Picture at this link -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:VMF- ... I_Logo.jpg

There is one shown on e-bay but I am not too sure about purchasing it. I did find a company that will make it for me, however, the minimum lot is 10 patches. I figure I would have them made and sell them at cost to interested parties.

Another patch I am looking for is one for VF-23 which was stationed on the USS Essex (CV-9) during Korea. Found a picture but no one making repros.
