Full Gear by Rota Mituhiro. It is in Japanese with English captions and lists. It's the most useful book available on military flying clothing from the 1920s to the 1970s.

Depends on howe specific you want to go.

I would recommend

"Art of the Flight Jacket ( Classic Leather Jackets of World War Two ) "
by Jon A MaGuire and John P. Colway

Excellent pictures and useful info

and the text is in English !!

http://www.amazon.com/Art-Flight-Jacket ... ght+jacket

There is also a sister publication which as its title suggests goes beyond WW2

American Flight Jackets: A History of U.S. Flyers Jackets from World War II to Desert Storm

I don't have Full Gear although I understand it's about the best reference book out there-be aware though it's big money, which is why I've never got a copy. Not sure what it is now, but it was about £90.00 when it came out. 'Suit Up!' is still my favourite although it's all in Japanese. John Chapman produced a CD-ROM which is about as good as anything, I don't know if copies are still available.

Found this with a search;

http://www.fullgear.net/index

"Q. How can I buy your book? ( In Europe? -> SEE HERE )
A. -Email us your address in order to estimate its shipping cost. [email protected]
-Send us an international money order in amount of the total in Japanese currency via a registered mail. (Sorry NO credit card for now)
-After arrival of the money order, we will ship it soon. It takes about 7-10 days to get to you."

Sounds like a bit of a PITA.

You might get the wrong idea if you try this link for the same book 'Full Gear' (http://www.hlj.com/product/OTHBK079)

'This item is is a Japanese-language book or magazine devoted to fashion or cosplay ("COStume PLAY"), and may contain actual sewing patterns for creating your own clothing/costumes, as well as photos of completed outfits. 168 pages.'

Sent the author an email... note he does take PayPal..so no need to go the certified money order route.
Now if only it didn't cost an arm a and a leg.

Here is one that says to contain sewing patterns.

Yeah that's 'Suit Up!' Those are diagrams of how a G-1 is constructed-there are no sewing patterns. I see 'Full Gear' now comes in at £160. Flippin' heck, I don't care how good it is, I'm not paying that.

"Suit up" has many useful illustrations and photos but does not have the information of contracts which "Full Gear" has.

I wrote last year to Mr. Aota to purchase his book. Here you'll find the price and the website. I did not purchase his book because the price is too high (about US$ 270).

"I can send you a copy, and I accept
payment with paypal. The shipping cost is JPY 1410 (YEN), so the total for
all is JPY 21410 (YEN). You can see some pages here.

There are many pictures and captions and tables are written in English. I
mean main descriptions are written in Japanese. Hope these help you. Thank
you for the inquiry.
Regards,
AOTA Mitihiro"
