The First Jacket Artist For Me

After getting interested in jacket art from reading "Cowboys of the Sky", and this was before the internet (for me anyway), the only real time information sources I had were aviation magazines. This artist was profiled in one of the magazines, the nome de plume for Terry Callhan, was Tacticus. I sent him five bucks for his catalog and price list. I was enthralled and marveled at his remarkafble artwork, but at that time I wasn't able to afford his prices. I wish I still had his catalog. His jackets were modeled by bikini bottomed cuties.

I went online to look him up...it's been way over 10 years so I guess I shouldn't expect to find anything, but I was hoping.
I came across this site that was selling one of his painted jackets. Wow, I still think he was one of the best modern jacket artists...just my humble opinion of course. This shows a jacket he painted and as a bonus, a few pages of his catalog are at the bottom of this page. If this jacket were for sale, I might have considered it, just because it was a Tacticus piece.

I'd say: in the same league as 'our' Jerome, or maybe a shade under.
BTW: has the often exclaimed question "where's Jerome??" been answered? I'd like to add "How's Jerome?" Anybody any news on him?

Cetainly top honors to the modeling job

Nice artwork but based on the photos, not terribly "period looking".

Has anyone seen an 8th AF shoulder insignia that huge?

Looks like acrylic paint which is a "no-no" from an authenticity standpoint unless the colors and pile are just right (which a few people seem to get right but not many). Acrylics DO however LAST and are durable.

Jerome does well as does:

I think he only paints BR jackets .........................

Even these are a bit non period but the skill level and manipulation of proper color is outstanding.

Yeeow...that shoulder patch is way out of proportion.
Being somewhat of an artist myself...and appreciating many styles...all things considered..I place Jerome among the best..especially stateside. Viewing much of his artwork I'm under the impression that he can easily paint period style artwork...as well as finer detail.
I haven't heard from him in a long time..and do hope that he is doing well.

No argument from me in re:Jerome's work. As far as I'm concerned, he's da man ! I consider myself lucky to have one of his jackets.
I would love to own these:

As for jacket backs being being period or not...really doesn't matter to me, I just appreciate the art.

I finally met Tacticus when I was in LA attending a really big gunshow in the 90s. I was looking to buy military aviation stuff, but immediately knew I was outclassed and outspent by the Japanese buyer(s) there. They had carts, white gloves and lots and lots of cash...they were on a mission and well prepared. Tacticus had a small display and some pretty awesome looking jackets. He had a couple nose art jackets, but someone had commissioned the entire cover of a girly magazine (a la Andy Warhol) for their jacket...don't remember if it was an A-2 or a rock 'n rollers jacket. But it was pretty cool.
From hanging out on eBay, I'm finding out, all sorts of stuff shows up on eBay, a Jerome painted jacket showed up, someday a Tacticus may show up. :?
