Awesome! Nice to see this sort of thing - reminds me of being a kid when Mom fixed our Sears Toughskin jeans with pieces of older jeans. Didn't have much then, but that's what folks did!
Yep, had those too. Mostly denim, but had one pair that was rust colored burnt orange. Hated those things. They really looked like shit after a few weeks when the kness were torn out & dark brown patches like Burt mentioned were ironed on.

amazing work. could you give us more details about the process and the " heat set filler"
Do you glue the newer leather patch in the back and then fill the hole with the filler?
Actually backed it with a piece of cotton cloth A2 liner material, added a leather patch and then filled the “seam” with the filler, then on to the dye work. The patches used on the A2 were taken from a horsehide pocket removed from a pair of shearling flight trousers.
