Hi Marcel,

This skullcap was used by radio-operators of the USMC or US Navy Landing Units for ship-to-shore communication during amphibious assaults. The skullcap carried the headphones and was worn under the steel M-1 helmet as a part of a complete (small) radioset including a battery supply unit. It's called Model RBZ Equipment, Navy Department, Bureau of Ships, Contractnumber NSxx-15891. More info to be found on the Internet...

for a small time i was tempted to bid on one thinking it was something used by air crew member.
