There was a RCN issued G-1. Made in the fifties. With a Lightning zipper. It was on this forum I am sure.

It's not "inspired" by that......quite the opposite infact!
The Scandinavians pioneered these styles and, after the 30's, Germany issued this single breasted style (prior to that they used a double breasted jacket made from a heavy canvas duck)
Where do your informations come from?
As far as I know the germans used an almost similar coat to the Kriegsmarine one already in ww1, so the design is at least from the 1910's 1920's
