I'm an admirer but I have to say the jacket's wearing him a bit too much. Ironically, Obama's one of the few presidents of late who could actually rock a true vintage cut A2 - he's got the build. Perhaps the White House clothing budget could stretch to a Good Wear...

It looks like a modestly trim cut, just a size bigger than he ought to wear.
What it doesn't look like is regulation goatskin. Too drapey.

Guess on maker: probably a gift from the military, so probably from an outfit well known for military PPs, like Pop's.

That jacket fits him like the Eastman jackets fit the actors in Pearl Harbor!

Maybe if JC gets his measurements he could make him a vintage A-2, now wouldn't that be a coup!! and as some have said already, Obama's figure would look GREAT in a 'proper' vintage cut A-2.

The PRESIDENTIAL PATCH also needs to be in incised leather or painted. What do you think Mr President...?

From The Telegraph.Co.UK in 2008
After UK prime minister Brown took over from Blair, Gordon Brown rejected the gift of leather jacket from George W Bush.
The list of gifts received by ministers, shows that Mr Brown chose not to exercise the option of keeping the presidential present given to him by George Bush on his first trip to the United States as Prime Minister.
The bomber jacket given to Mr Brown by Mr Bush during their first talks as fellow leaders is emblazoned with the presidential logo and features his name stitched on to the brown leather.

Someone created this image of him wearing his gift...

Complicating the issue of whose jacket O is wearing: hidden warmer pockets (made by leaving the outboard edges of the pocket unstitched and using an inner lining) are now part of USAF spec.

Yes!...and maybe either a nice tasteful pinup of the First Lady or a 15th AAF style side shot of Air Force One flying though some flak bursts painted on the back.

I sort of like the idea of flak bursts with the names of the tough issues he has taken "hits" on written across them. But maybe it should be something simpler, reminiscent of the CBI.... little GOP elephants instead of camels on the back to reflect successfully getting a critical issue "over the hump". One would also need to leave some room for some parachuting donkeys to mark the times he gets "shot down" as well....

This is the official White House (gift) Staffer jacket, a black flight jacket...not exactly an A2...

The A-2 jackets that the USAF has issued over the past several years are just outright ugly. Probably a not so good quality of leather. Have never been a fan of the A-2.

Really? Hand warming pockets on USAF A-2 jackets? If anything, the USAF HATES it when their members stick their hands in their pockets, hence the deliberate pocket design on the CWU-35 & 45s. In the USAF, the only reason for you to put your hands in your pockets is to place or remove an object. Gloves are for hand warming.

At least this was the case when I retired in 2005.

Which only makes this photo from the early sixties a puzzler...except that officers can do as they see fit. ;)
