ORIGINAL TYPE B-15D (MODIFIED) INTERMEDIATE FLYING JACKET

Gents,

This is a rare transitional flight jacket; the B-15D (Modified). The modification was intended to reduce the jacket’s flammability, considered greater with the original style fur collar which also interfered with the new style rigid fiberglass helmets introduced in the early Jet Age.

These jackets were modified in the mid 50’s by removal of the original fur collar, and replacement with the wool elastic collar, this is the reason why the collar knit doesn’t match the rest of the knits. A new tag was then applied reflecting the modification.

This example is in great condition considering its age, and the modification was done very well that it is barely noticeable.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Regards,
Jorge

I always like the white stitching on the replacement collar on these original modified jackets. A very nice example! Kevin
