M-422a vs G-1 fit

What are the actual differences between a G-1 and an m-422a?

Are they just small style differences or are the fits actually different as well?

I have an original Gordon and Furguson M422a and the fit seem very very long. Is that normal?

Ah, you found the Better Fighting Garment thread? Good.

tl;dr; there are no hard and fast differences. Really, the Navy has been making the same basic jacket since 1940. Materials change, patterns vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the changes in designations (M-422, M-422A, AN-J-3A, 55J14, etc) really don't reflect any changes in design.

Some people will tell you that the M-422A was longer in the torso than the G-1. They mostly think that because the most commonly-reproduced M-422A is the Gordon & Ferguson, which was long in the torso, and the most commonly reproduced G-1 is the L.W. Foster, which was very short in the torso. Other manufacturers were all over the map.
