Hello everyone, first time posting here.

After doing some reading here i was really excited to buy my first quality jacket, since It's my first try i didn't want to spend $1000-$1500 yet before I find my taste and stuff, so I went to a couple thrift stores.

I know nothing about leather jackets, and at the time it felt like real leather to me, but when I took the pictures they seem very different from the pics I see posted here.

Is it real leather? It seems like it folds on itself way too easy, I touched some horsehides in person and they would never bend like that?
Also the light seems to hit it different too, no shine or smoothness or thick hard folds creases as in some jackets I see here.

Anyway here are the photos.
Thank you!

If it’s lamb it’s still a nice jacket as long as you didn’t over pay for it . It looks like a repro of a “Raiders of the List Ark” jacket which were originally made by Wested and were lambskin.

Looking a little closer at the grain it could definitely be goat as well . It’s difficult to tell without actually having the jacket in front of you.

Also it looks a little trim on you . Might go up one size next time .
Man I am sad, it was $350, I spend a lot of money which I don't have right now.

I couldn't find anything that fits me because my height (6'2). I'm in Tokyo right now and the maximum size they have is 46 and only in some places still, most places the max was 44. So the moment I found someone that kinda fitted I think i got blind.

Should have just spent full price on a brand new branded one and avoided all this

46 was still small on me btw, I'm 220lb lift weights (not buff by any means) but shoulder and back aren't small

The fit looks good. The arms and body seem to be sitting where you want for this type of jacket.

I wouldn't be sad about the $350. The hide looks decent, nice gloss and variable grain.

imo, it doesn't look to be a bad fit at all. what's more, with some wear time, it will conform to your shape. uh, aint lamb and goat in the same phylum, fellas? lamb being softer and drapier than goat. top, don't get down on yourself, just enjoy your jacket. hang around here and ya may pick something up, both in learning about our obsession, oops I mean past time, and perhaps a nifty Jacket, or two, or three. welcome to the abusement park.

We’ve all started out the same way. We bought jackets first and researched them afterward . That’s one of the reasons we’re here. Stick around and learn a little before your next purchase. The jacket is trim on you but wearable. Also sometimes you can pay more for a jacket in Japan than the jacket would cost you here in the U.S. as the economy in Japan often supports higher pricing . We have guys selling jackets at reasonable prices on this forum all of the time . Stick around .

Aero is a good choice as Nick suggests.

If you don't want to break the bank and are still after an Indy style jacket, a cowhide Raiders jacket from Wested is good. I have one, heavier than lamb and very nice to wear. Funnily enough it's one of my least expensive jackets but one that gets probably the most "nice jacket" comments from people.

Don't beat yourself up about it. We all had to start somewhere. Enjoy the jacket journey!

I went to the website suggested aero.com and while choosing my jacket, picture attached came up. Is it a matter of preference or one is always better than the other for the extra price? If the former, what are your guys preference?
Thanks!

I'd say it's just preference, all of their hides are good quality.
Edit
Their chrome excel front quarter horse hide would be, and in fact was, my first choice. Yes it's heavy and takes time to break in but once it does it's beautiful stuff.

Totally agree. I have an Aero Barnstormer in brown CXL FQHH and it is easily one of the most beautiful leathers I have ever seen. It looks amazing when new but with wear it is beyond stunning.

Heavy stuff though and not for sissies :D
