Yeah, I remember seeing something of that nature back in this 50s. I thought that it was from wwll. No thanx is just about right, with way too many oops factors involved.

The skyhook system was originally conceived in the UK towards the end of WW2 and was based on the airmail retrieval system used in the 1920s. It was later adopted and used by the US Navy, Air Force and the CIA.

Yes please. Footage of a Hercules doing something similar comes to memory, although flying higher, and if I recall correctly, the person to be picked up raised a rope under a balloon so the Herc had to aim just under the balloon, taking care of wind direction.
