Good Wear Leather Type A-2: Bronco MFG. Corp. Size 44

I was recently surprised to be the recipient of yet another GW A-2. This Bronco is a test jacket made of a light russet aniline cowhide with a vintage finish that I am told is lighter than original A-2s, but will darken with wear.

I am busy studying the specific characteristics of this contract and really enjoying learning about all the fine details. I immediately noticed the wide square shoulders, and am having fun noting things like the beveled corners on the pockets. I have a lot of homework to do before I can fully appreciate The Maestros work.

A good fit on you, but for me it is too light a colour, it looks like the caramel colour ELC were using for there 1401p some years ago.

It’s a pretty nice fitting jacket and I like the look of the Bronco jackets. I’m sure it will darken up over s period of time but I have a feeling that will only happen with some pretty heavy wear.

Its a very generous fit on you but looks good , I do not like the colour but I have always been into the darker leathers .Enjoy it .

Jonesy, because of the leather and color choice that may not be the most accurate reproduction but from a "I like leather jackets" point of view it looks really good.
The leather is interesting and it should be fun to see how it changes. Maybe the jacket is a little big, but I like to have different fitting jackets available, it gives you options .... That's why we have so many

The fact it's come from JC I'd think he'd have some evidence to prove such a colour may have existed which to me doesn't look russet light or not, however Jonsey it looks a lovely jacket but to my eyes as some have suggested it does look a little roomy, particularly the rear view pic. I know some here prefer such a fit but you're happy then that's all that matters and if I saw you out wearing I'd certainly compliment you on it. I'm sure with time and good wear it'll look even better but you could always HWT if you can't wait - something I'd never have ***** to do!!

Hey guys thanks for all the comments. I enjoy all of your perspectives on a subject that I am very much still learning about. I have purchased a dizzying number of jackets recently in a very short amount of time and still trying to figure out what I got. I have mostly been into civilian jackets but recently decided to go down the reproduction A-2 rabbit hole.

My approach has been not too unlike that of the men who were issued these jackets originally in that I will pretty much take what ever the quartermaster gives me. I think that the fit on this one is a bit loose but I don't mind that especially as this was not a custom jacket. As far as the leather I don't have much to compare it to. I guess my Dubow is more historically accurate and I like it very much. This leather seems actually lighter than the goat on the Dubow, and is a little waxy.

I think it is a cool jacket all in all and don't think I am going to take any hot water or acetone to it.

No need for acetone. You can easily over dye that. The ONLY reason you would ever use acetone would be to get the color almost completely gone and this can only be done on certain leather finishes. If you want to take off the waxy feel light wiping with 98% ISOPROPYL alcohol would suffice. I could show you a transformation I recently did. You would be blown away at the change. But I am not at liberty to do so at this point.

That said you like it so no need to change a thing.

EDIT. Not denatured alcohol. Isopropyl rubbing alcohol is what I meant. The vapors of denatured alcohol are worse and I think have a lower flash point as in more easily for a boo boo to occur.

Jeremiah I enjoyed reading about your BK project. I recently had fun re-dying some truckers and am pretty pleased with how the Schott came out.

I like my most recent GW very much and certainly don't think that I could improve it. I have been wearing it almost around the clock and it is softening up nicely.

Definitely. I myself happen to like that color. The A2 I got this summer and sold was similar.

As for the fit - looks good, but a bit too blousy, esp. from the back. Intensive wearing with casual rain/sun weather cycles might improve the situation though.
Anyway, one more nice work by JC.
