Goose bay Labrador was the largest Airfield in the world during WWII

Aircraft transiting to Europe, Antisub, and cargo flights all staged through Goose Bay

Of course the cold was also legendary

Check out the link for a great series of photos in vivid Kodachrome that show airmen and ground crews wearing a variety of sheepskin

A couple of A-2s also show up worn by ATC crews

    Enjoy

Thanks for posting these wonderful colour images. I saw them on FB earlier today. There are plenty of good colour pictures of A-2s, B-3s, B-7s and D-1 jackets.

Fantastic. Funny, I wouldn’t touch a raw sheepskin B-3, but I love B-7’s. Have to get it dirty though! Some lovely jackets there, being worn with complete disregard for their welfare, as you do when you didn’t shell out a fortune for them.

Kodachrome is great for that. The color is just as vibrant today as it was 70 years ago You feel like you were right there.

So cool to see the true color of these jackets! Check out the guy in the background ice skating in a B3.
