D-2? Looks very strange.

Can anyone tell me what this strange garment is? Has a spec tag for a "D-2" made by Aero Leather Clothing in Beacon, but I didnt even know that designation existed. Looks like something you'd find at an Eskimo encampment, not a US military jacket.

There are more things in Heaven and Earth and USAAF equipment catalogues than we have knowledge of. Bet there's all sorts of things like this lurking out there that we've never heard of.

It's a 1944 OD, alpaca lined, Mechanic's, Arctic jacket, issued to ground crew, along with the B-2 trousers.

Strangely, the eBay seller only depicts it inside out.

The D-1 is a shearling jacket, not a parka. Dave is right, The D-2 is an OD cotton, alpaca lined jacket designed to replace the D-1. That's a rare jacket. Either the seller thinks that's the outside or they have something to hide.

Yes that's the inside of the D-2 parka.
I have one complete in my collection. They are hard to find !
And the pants harder.
There's one pictured in "Gear Up" too.
It's very very warm, but much more usefull than the leather made D-1.

Not really. All they got was the lining. I spoke to the seller about this. That's all there is.
