descent and the first of African American descent to hold an international pilot license.

Katherine Stinson, “the flying schoolgirl,” and her plane in Brooklyn
after completing a flight from Chicago, June 1, 1918.

Amy Johnson (1903~1942) Pioneering English aviator. The first aviatrix, to solo 11,000 miles from England
to Australia (in a Gipsy Moth), with a co-pilot she flew London to Moscow in one day, and then across Siberia
and on to Tokyo, setting a record time for flying from Britain to Japan.

Say hello to Tiny !

Georgia Ann Thompson (“Tiny”) Broadwick.
(April 8, 1893 ~ 1978)

She was the first woman to jump from an airplane in flight with a parachute. She jumped from
an airplane flown by Glenn L. Martin at 2,000 feet over Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California.
Tiny was 20 years when she made her first parachute jump.

Her nickname, Tiny, was a reference to her small stature. She was less than 5 feet tall
and weighed 85 pounds.

Over the next several years she demonstrated the use of parachutes to the military, and is credited
with making the first international free-fall descent. By the time she stopped jumping in 1922,
Miss Broadwick had made over 1,100 jumps.

First woman to gain a commercial pilots license &
first pilot ever, male or female, to fly a small, open
cockpit plane solo from Cape Town.

Soviet Fighter pilot Lt. Antonia Lebedeva (1916~1943).
Her military career began in the women’s 586th Fighter
Regiment, protecting the sky of Saratov.
