Color of original Type II Service Boot

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what color the welt on original Type II Service Boot was? I bought a pair of boots from SM Wholesale and the welt on the boot is dark brown. I've seen other makers where the welt is light brown or closer to the color of the leather on the boot. I'm not a reenactor and I'm not complaining. The boots are very well made. I'm just curious as to what color they actually were.

something to avoid is the whitewall syndrome on modern brown corcorans where the midsole is a pigskin coloured synthetic from which the welting colour disappears.
in real jump boots (and service shoes which were soled the same way) the midsole was leather which darkens with wear and exposure to wet.
