Hi Guys;
I don't post here too often but thought I would share this interesting little piece of WWII Naval history. It is a 1940's Universal Geneve with a military style dial and solid 14k gold case.
The back is inscribed "Lt. Comdr. H. D. Spratlin From The Officers and Crew U.S.S. Finback Oct.11,1944"
Lt. Commander H. D. (Dean) Spratllin was executive officer of the USS Finback when it pulled a downed fighter pilot by the name of George H. W. Bush out of the South Pacific. Spratlin and Bush apparently remained friends, with Spratlin attending Bush's inauguration and being mentioned in his memoirs. Here are a couple of links to info on Spratlin.
