Aero D-1 mechanics jacket

I think a D-1 is underrepresented here (or I'm too dumb to look). So here are a few pictures of my new Aero USAAF D-1 jacket.


Color is seal with reinforcements in seal.


Most people here wear their jackets wider, but I like it rather tight.

Cool jacket especially with the pockets… B6 is my personal preference.. can’t go wrong with an Aero.. perfect fit, no pinching in at the chest like a lot of other D1s &B6s

I'm surprised why Aero don't use better Talon Zipper repros. They seem to be the same as used by lower priced jacket manufacturers like the Chinese or Avi or 5* ....

I don't think they are as bad as that. I've owned quite a few and they are alright if not anywhere like NOS standard. The very cheap poor quality ones that 5 Star use wouldn't stay horizontal like these. They twist in the zip pull and end up hanging straight down.

How do you recognise better Talon? I don't see what's wrong with these? They work perfectly and look good with the jacket. What more could you want?

I refer my statement to the shape and optic of the zipper not the functionality. Some other premium makers use Zipper pulls that are almost perfect copies of the original ones, but this here seems to be different.
To make clear it's not a big thing but to authenticity nerds like me it would always annoy me because I expect better stuff from Aero.
If you're happy with your zippers everything is alright, I didn't mean to badmouth your jacket

You can ask Aero for originals from my experience…I agree ref the really cheap ones not sitting properly but these ones on the jacket look to be fine

Nice fit and looks good.
To break it in you need to get out and change No3 engine on that B 17 on hardstand 24, that's the furthest one right on the other side of the airfield

On all US Military jackets Aero use ( and have done for the last 10 years) very high quality Japanese repros of M42 Talon. These are not cheaper version as you describe.
Also on request Aero also have NOS Talon zips but these work best on an A2 where we don't need to match pocket / side adjuster zips such as on D1 or B6.

A nice jacket for sure.
It's a shame that Aero Leather uses the wrong fur density on their B-6 and D-1 jackets.
Normally it should be 1/4 inch deep, it seems to be much more.

I had never noticed this horizontal seam reinforcement on the sleeves. Is it specific to a particular contract ?

It seems to me that there is no side zipper on the D1.

No side adjuster zips but he did say match those or the pocket zips.

Sorry sometimes I read English a bit fast (not my native language) . But I'm not sure I understand. There are several zips on a D-1 ? If it is made like the B-6 then there are no zips on the pockets.

Edit: I just saw that there are zips on the pockets ! I learned something today

No I was combining my answer to include B6 and D1 / The B6 has side zips but no zips on pockets, the D1 the other way round no side adjusters but zipped pockets

Yes, sorry I misread and in addition I did not know that the D-1 had pocket zips. My bad

The fluff on my Aero B6 isn’t to fluffy atall .. the depth is just right

Well, you’re not entirely wrong Kermit!
Not every D-1 has pockets, There are some originals that don’t.
