a 1950s French army map case used a "man purse"

I was looking for a bag to carry my stuff around (Ipad, laptop and eventually books) and after browsing the internet for a while, I realized that instead of buying a cheaply made, but expensive, piece of crap from China, I could get this $15 French military map case from Sportsmanguide (https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/french-military-surplus-map-case-used?a=2259362).

As mentioned on their website, this is made out military cotton canvas with metal button closure and leather straps. It has basically 2 separate compartments. 2 side zippers open up to reveal the map case (a clear viewing window) on the back - size is about 12.5" x 9.5" closed. I need now to find a shoulder strap but that should not be too hard.

The bag being from the 50s, I decided to personalize it based on a tattoo my grand dad got while serving in French Indochina.
