Wow, you guys are cutting grass already? I’m probably 2 months away yet;)

Aye, lots of rain and a mild winter means most green stuff shifting early. Mowing in March is exceptional though. We have slower growing grass in the paddocks so that hasn’t really got going yet. Bumble bees and queen wasps are awake but there is still a Chicago of overnight frosts which won’t do them much good.

I just hope it’s better this summer than last. From may to October I was cutting grass every 3 days. At 4.5 hours per cut. Usually only like that until June. Then drought and dead burnt grass until September. But my lawn never looked better.

It takes me a bit longer to get it all done here but it’s split into three main lawns plus other bits and there’s a fair bit of faffing around various trees etc. In the summer I split it between a couple of days but generally speaking it gets a haircut once a week if it’s growing fast but less if it turns hot and dry.

Yes , I’ve split mine into 2 days now as well. 2 hrs on the riding mower and 2 or 3 hours on the tractor. I got in on a tree planting program through the government and had a couple thousand saplings planted. Have to keep the grass cut around them for my part of the bargain. A lot of work but it saves me 6000 bucks a year in property taxes ;)

The effects of the oceans, jet stream etc on climate is quite amazing. When you consider the uk is on the same latitude as James bay here. There is nothing in James bay but Inuit and polar bears. It’s hundreds of miles beyond where the roads end. But by the time the oceans have had their way with it, the climate is quite temperate in the uk.

That’s an inviting tax relief.

My geography master would say the UK does not have climate, it has weather.

So, mowing done I needed to pick up a few provisions from the local shop in the village so as the weather was still dry I thought it was a good excuse to get the Jeep out of hibernation. I dumped the tanker, left my wellies on and grabbed my ELC B15 (I beg forgiveness for it not being a GW) ;) and set off on a bit of a shakedown first Jeep ride of 2024. Part way round I pulled into a quiet spot for this quick photo. A chum happened to be passing and stopped for a quick chat which ended up lasting half an hour. Got back home a short while later just a tad chilly around the edges.

I’m jealous. Can’t wait for it to green up, wash away the road salt and get the Land Rover (and other things) out.

I admit to picking my way around the muddy bits. I know it's a Jeep and supposed to be muddy but this old girl spent all her life in California before coming over here in 2013. She's 81 now and doesn't deserve to be used on salted roads or muddy lanes [off the fields via tractors].

Exactly like my Land Rover. Bought new in 1960 in California. I brought it up here in 2008. Never seen salt and won’t as long as I have it. Between the salt and the aluminum body on a steel frame, series 2 are all but extinct here.

Exactly, they have earned a bit of respect in their old age. I know we've talked about it previously, I'm very familiar with Series LR's, Defender's and other LR products.

I love it. Always been the quintessential Land Rover to me. Same model year as me but better cared for and subsequently in better shape then I am.;) I do some mild off roading as we have some nice un maintained roads and trails nearby. But only when it’s dry. While I have had in the mud once or twice I don’t anymore. There are so many nooks and crannies, washing it Properly is a big dirty task.
