Also, My A-2 provides very little warmth in anything but mild temps. It is after all a summer weight jacket. If you are going to be in cooler weather, which I know new mexico can get, especially at night, you will want to be able to wear a sweatshirt or something under it. I usually wear a...
As many veterans have said, the army issued two uniform sizes. Too big and Too small.
It is fun to throw a wildcat into the room once in a while, but this is a circular argument.
Wear what you like, because when you get right down to it, for me, the A2 is one of the most inconvienent...

Don't beat yourself up too much.
Keep in mind that most of this stuff has only become "valuable" in more recent years. Excess time and money have given us the luxury of romaticizing things from our childhood.
I remember going to army surplus stores with my Dad in the mid 1970's and there...
Very good wet weather jacket. I have an issued one in woodland an AF buddy gave me, and I have a non-military issue but exact same pattern in black I got from The Sportsmans Guide. It is a knock off, but was in the $40-50 range, and I wanted a more normal color for wearing to the office etc...
I tend to agree that something must have been said or taken the wrong way. Otherwise why announce that you are leaving?
One thing that happens in all fourms is that typed words without being able to see the person delivering them can easily be misunderstood.
I am probably as guilty as...
I am in the camp that won't wear a jacket with markings. If I didn't earn it or belong to it, I don't wear it.
So, a patched, painted, or otherwise marked jacket I pass on. I have passed up some I really liked because of it, so I am sure that it has an affect on the value to other potential...
I was thinking that as I typed, but I didn't bother to check it. Thanks.
A replacement for the A-2 might have been the intent, but in terms of utility, the b-10 seems way more practical. The A-2 being summer weight, and no insulation helps keep you from burning to death quite as fast...
Think of it from their point of veiw Flight gear was equipment needed to survive at high altitude in the cold, not a fashion statement. How cool you look in your jacket is not much of a concern when you are climbing into an aluminum tube to get shot at, burned to death, or torn open by flak...
Thanks. Now I have to gouge my eyes out.
33.5" chest, 29" waist and a Medium looks that tight on him? I am guessing a size 44 like me would need an XXXXXXL in japanese sizes.
I wasn't surprised that an AAF crewman had a navy jacket. These guys traded everything. I was just surprised it was mis labled. Too simple to miss, I would think.
I didn't see a b-24 specific exibit. I saw the nose section of a b-24, but since you couldn't walk in it, seemed kinda a waste...
The fact that they got it wrong is amusing, but the people who will try to come up with some official reason why an AAF flier had a navy jacket will be equally amusing. Guys in combat zones trade clothes and equipment all the time just to have something different. Besides, how many jackets...
