For what its worth, I thought I might contribute about the 'grain' discussion.
I recently acquired a Monarch A-2 from Vic Silver Surfer. Apart from the fact it is a very wearable original, the contrast in leather grain is remarkable. The back panel has very fine grain indeed, whereas the front...
Seller does state the fur has been replaced (horrible looking stuff) and the cuffs and waistband, but the band is the wrong type. Hanging loop has been incredibly badly restitched. The leather puller isn't the orignal and I'm not sure the zip puller itself is either, although no noticeable...
I'm pretty sure its a Foster 55J14, with those lovely shaped pocket flaps. Another feature of the Foster is long sleeves for jacket body length, which that one clearely has!
Ok, that's me, I'm out. When I was part of this forum many years ago there wasn't all this finger pointing. To be clear, I've not moaned about the wait, just said it's not professional to state what isn't the case and thereby manage expectation, it's a pity you can't see this. In the 'olden...
I'm certainly not suggesting a refund. But on their much more visible "About Us" its says "We aim to deliver within 6 to 12 weeks" (although admittedly without guarantee). I'm prepared to wait, but in the business I run I would be more overt about delivery expectation, to build customer loyalty.
I think it’s the transition that’s the stressor. My meaning is the first one or two marks on an otherwise blemish free perfect leather shell is going to really hurt, but when it’s got loads it balances out, just looks old, used and becomes ‘character’.
For instance, I have an aluminium wedding...
On a more positive note, I bought a pot of ELC's Horse Oil and from initial tests it seems very good indeed - easy to put on, not thick and greasy like Pecards, soaks in quickly and seems to do a good job in softening the leather. At £25, or whatever, for only a small pot it isn't cheap, but is...
If BK is taking potentially 15 weeks plus, I may hold off for now and see what Eastman have at their 'pop-up' as an off the shelf. I know it will be circa £300 more, but having decided I'd like a high quality repro A-2 I'd prefer to get at least one sooner rather than later.
Sorry, but I don't think its good. A little longer yes, but not over twice as long. Perhaps it will be quicker in reality...
Re BK, any idea on his current turn around time?
I've emailed to ask, as I don't think its reasonable once I've paid to then state a minimum time that's a month longer than the maximum quoted on the website. I suppose it is what it is, but if its the case then they really should revise their website.
I've still had no response from BK. Maybe...
I have now had a short courteous email from Platon confirming receipt and saying it will be 4 to 6 months, which is rather longer than the 6 to 12 weeks it says on their website.
Hopefully all fine, I don't expect immediate replies, but if it delays too long BK won't get my order and money in principle. JAD already has, via PayPal, so hopefully they will be professional enough to keep me updated.
