Re: A.M. Clothing Irvin Jackets-the ultimate RAF fleece jack
Just read this whole thread (there's 20 minutes I'll never get back) and felt compelled to say a couple of things:
1) More and better choice of jackets = good for us, the consumer
2) Business is business, I'm afraid that once you...
I'm of the view that it's my money and I want the darned thing to fit! I have two Aero jackets that are custom fit (1950s bomber and B-6). If I hadn't had them made to my size I would wear them less. Some may say that would be a good thing.

Bought it to,replace a Longchamp (that was looking very tired).
Lovely brown leather, lots of ceit card slots, two note pockets and a zipped coin pocket as well as a display window for a credit card.
Cost me about £40 and is better...
A few pics of the returned jacket:
Nothing is getting through THAT reinforcement!
Aged to match the jacket leather.
Well loved (and worn)
The offending item!
Cheers,
The lining wear is where my wallet (in the wallet pocket!) forces it to rub against my belt. The combination of wearing this jacket (almost exclusively) with a heavy(ish) wallet and a belt does for it.
It's back now and they've reinforced with a (beautifully matched) internal leather...
Not got pics of the more recent rips plus I misremembered the timeline - I bought the jacket in May 2007 and the first lining had worn through by August the same year!
Jacket as bought:
Jacket after 1 week:
Jacket after 3 months:
Jacket after 12 months:
I didn't take photos...
At last - my jacket is on its way back from Aero, having been with them since the end of August last year (4.5 months!).
This is the fourth time since I bought it (May 2007) that it has been back for lining work.
I (unfortunately) purchased it with Alpaca wool lining which wore through after...
Stunning, just stunning, and a first effort to boot!
I don't post here as often as I should but I keep an eye on the forum and am amazed by the skill and dedication shown by some of you guys who have started making your own jackets.
How does one learn to do something like that?
Keep it up...
Oh my - I just wish I could get a jacket lining to last half that!
I read you guys' reports of "6-7 yrs old..and I can't find any wear at all on the lining", etc., with envy.
My 4 year old (yes FOUR - in May) Aero 1950s pilot jacket is just about due for its second relining.
I bought it with...
I love the B-6 too. I'm not a fan of the "broken grain" look though - I've always preferred to wear my jackets for that authentic "lived in" look. Sadly not cold enough for that in the UK for a B-6 so mine will look like this for a while yet...
Cheers,
