    USN 'Avalanche' Coat.

It seems there are lots of USN jackets that we know very little about. I'm assuming that the jacket worn by the chap looking through the binoculars is a Zip Deck, and what looks like a throat strap is actually from the hat he's wearing? It could be the 'Special Winter Version' or he might have...

    USN 'Avalanche' Coat.

I've been sent links to two issued jackets, the NXs 16279... WWII USN Rubberized Shearling Deck Coat Navy Contract NXs 16279 and the NXS 8138... WWII US NAVY Deck Coat NXS 8139 Can't be 100% sure those worn in the pic are one of these. I'd imagined from looking at the photo that the coats...

    USN 'Avalanche' Coat.

And still no word from any of the experts on here as to whether these were issued garments.

    USN 'Avalanche' Coat.

I've seen this kind of coat referred to as an 'Avalanche' and I think 'Coast Guard' coat but imagine those were just casual terms for a style of coat we are mostly familiar with. Now the fact we can see in this photo 3 what I assume to be USN personnel - though I suppose they could be civilians...

    Flight Jacket Scarves

Where's the camo one from? Have seen them in Japan but a cheaper option would be welcome.

Is this really a Vanson jacket

Indeed. Just because some members have no interest in non-military items I don't see why they seem to resent any discussion of things like motorcycle jackets.

A bit confusing as it says located in Japan and "Free Standard Shipping from Greater China".

    ID these USN jackets 1932

Me neither. Interesting find, though not sure I'm particularly keen on the design.

    ID these USN jackets 1932

Indeed. The cloth jackets not only were zippered but were styled (maybe a couple of inches) longer than the leather ones...this was also true of one of the Buzz repros I had. This was then carried over into later eras with Navy flight jackets generally longer in cut than their Air Force...

a-1s, and other pre war jackets

If it was a style commonly found on commercial jackets of the time it's something the makers could easily have carried over to their issued jackets; I don't know if it was ever specified by the military that cuffs had to be a certain length?

Help Identifying Vintage Horsehide Motorcycle Jacket, Sears? Hercules?

Don't know about the age of the zipper, but the jacket looks more like late 50s~60s to me. But anyway, it seems like you have a nice slice of family history. Does the painting of an 'angel' suggest a link to a motorcycle club? That said, it's not the sort of image one would normally associate...

a-1s, and other pre war jackets

Weren't some jacket cuffs made extra long so they could be folded back? I'm not sure if they were intended to be folded back or if the long cuffs simply offered the wearer the option of folding them back.
