ORIGINAL BRILL BROS., INC. TYPE G-1 INTERMEDIATE FLYING JACKET (USCG)

Gents,

Today we have a mint example of what some collectors claim is the last of the good series of the G-1; the MIL-J-7823D. This specific example was made by Brill Bros, Inc. under contract awarded in 1968.

After a bit of research, I found that this jacket could have belonged to Capt. James A. Dillian, who retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in August 1974.

The condition of this jacket is superb and honestly it’s hard to believe it is over 50 years old.

All parts are original to the jacket. The goatskin leather is supple. The mouton collar is pristine, no fading is present.
Inside lining is spotless. The Scovill zipper looks mint and works perfectly. The knits are flawless and still solid, which is rare.

Left chest depicts a leather name tag, printed “CAPT J. A. DILLIAN USCG”.

These series are extremely comfortable and are a delight to wear.

That jacket is aging beautifully, Jorge. Goatskin may take forever to age, but once it does, it's second to none. I really like the color of that mouton as well.

Thanks, guys! Yes, this one might take forever to age and develop a patina. Honestly at the rate I wear a jacket probably will take another 50 years.

Congrats Jorge, that G-1 is stunning It even fits you as if it was almost new. I used to own a Ferguson G-1 that after 40 years of wear (20 by the original owner and 20 mine more or less) became a lot baggy around the belly and on the pockets. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Looks like it originally belonged to an AVIATION ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS named Hall, then to an Airman named Peters. When you are an E-3, no one cares what your first name is.

Not sure why an E-3 would sew on a nametag. He would be promoted in a few months.

Maybe 135 signifies the squadron, or inventory number if it was a squadron jacket.

So is it ok to slather this up with persol?
