FiveStar Leather Acquired a TYPE A-2 Pougkeepsie Leather

But... aren't the jackets from repro manufacturers just copies in and of themselves? Or am I missing something? Copying copies is bad?
I can't speakfor everyone in this field, but I can speak for Aero (After all we started this whole genre ) Only our military jackets and a handful 7 or 8 are pure reproductions. All our other designs are our own interpretations of an era's style and design based on how we would have made that type of jacket had we been in business "back in that day"
Hence the way our 30s designs fit differently to our 50s designs

Despite the fact that our designs and concept has been replicated all over the planet and if we had a fiver for eyery time we were asked to copy a McCoy/Lewis/Mushmans/ELMC etc etc jacket we could all have a good night out on the proceeds.....we never did. Respect to others labours

We do now sell the 1930s Levi Jackets we made for LVC 1999-2003 but that's with Levi's blessing for all the help and work we did while they were lauching the LVC brand

Put it this way: copying Aero A-2s is just fine, as long as you're copying an original. Making your pattern from one of Aero Scotland's repros would be bad form. Likewise, if Shawn or anyone else wanted to make a repro of a Buco jacket, that's fine, because Buco isn't around anymore. If Buco (or for that matter, Aero NY) were still around and offering these styles, then it would be sketchy.

Other than Aero and Buco are currently registered trade names

Ah - who owns the name now? To my knowledge, Buco isn’t still offering any jackets, so I don’t think it’s them.

The US Patent & Trademark Office list one active “Buco” trademark to Toy’s McCoy’s of Japan. The Real McCoy’s has a nice page for Buco products.

Maybe it's time for Shawn to make this new A2 from good horsehide? I know several of my colleagues who, due to the fact that they are big or tall guys, can't buy A2 for reasonable money from such expensive companies as ELC. Platon with his standart sizes also can't help them, perhaps 5 stars could be their good chance.
As a big and tall fellow I can say the FiveStar, SM Wholesale and US authentic are the only custom sized jackets available. I’ve spoken to literally every company that makes an A-2 worth a damn and those are the only three. And of them SM and FiveStar are about comparable quality wise. Price wise SM is very expensive along with USa. It’s my opinion FiveStar is the best custom size option period.

Yes, especially in the patch World. Just ask Sean Collins.... ;)
Not sure what you mean, you may need to expound a little.

If they're original designs, I can understand. If they're recreations of unit patches, I'm not sure what the trouble would be -- other than maybe from the units.

Sean was ripping into other artists here and on FB for reproducing his reproductions. At the same time defending his reproductions of Flying Tigers stuff. Which in some cases were trade marked. The defence tied to subtle differences in design. The wives and Veterans in the Flying Tigers Association were baying for blood and they wanted it sorted out through lawyers.... good times...

Mr. Collins would disappear into thin air if malevolent mouse got involved lol. I made the mistake of commenting that the tiger on the 14th patches he made “looked goofy” and good grief did he rip me a new one! And proceeded to ban from the Facebook group I made the comment in. But I didn’t know about the trouble with the copyrights. I almost bought one of his layered leather patches, I’m glad now I didn’t.

Yep...

Dictatorship is theSOP.

We welcome artists and fans...unless you rick the boat or offer a better product. Then you will be banned. Wormed into pages he did not even start as moderator and swung the axe... Lots of jacket pages became festooned with patch sales links.

Plenty of quality artists here.

Who would you consider to recommend for layered patches then?

Yeah Walt Disn'y like copyists and can get on the blower pretty quickly when he thinks there's royalties to be gathered
Back in the late 60s I made the jackets below for Penny Tree, David Bailey photgraphed them for Vogue and within a fortnight of it being published we got a curt cease and desist letter from the great man himself (or itcould have been a cut & paste with a rubber stamped signature, of course )

Measage was clear though

As a person who draws patches and sometimes jackets, I have never encountered discrimination in this. Everyone draws inspiration from the originals in famous books or WW2 photos (unless the customer asks to create something completely new for him), and this is history. What are the copyrights for the patches that the squadron guys drew 80 years ago?

IIRC, the AVG tiger patch designs have been copyrighted by Lydia Rossi, daughter of Dick Rossi of the 1st Pursuit.
