Bloody amazing photo this one.

30th March 1945, a Hawker Typhoon of 181 Sqn firing its 60lb rockets at trucks in railways sidings at Nordhorn, Germany.

Huge hitting power Lorenzo. The Tiffie was really the aircraft that from an airborne offensive view was the greatest threat to the German Panzer divisions on the Western Front in '44 and '45.

They were responsible for saving a huge amount of Allied troops' lives. Also a tremendously dangerous job with the advanced flak defences (both static and mobile) that the Germans were using in the last years of the war.

One of my family was killed by flak flying Tiffies whilst attacking a marshalling yard over Germany in 1945.

I have a few photos of him but will have to scan them to post.

Continuing the Tiffie theme, here's a great snap of some armourers getting one ready.

Little know fact, the weight of firepower from a rocket and cannon armed Tiffie was equivalent to a broadside from a naval destroyer.

I wonder what the meaning is from the words on the cowling: THE CHINA BRITISH?

It's from one of the "China British" squadrons, in this case 247 Sqn colony. These units were named in recognition of funds raised from the China coast by foreign concessions like Honkers.
