Where to start on patches

I am becoming interested and intrigued by squadron patches. Is there a website or book to start exploring?

Honestly, I'd be interested in a book like that too, and I've already got a couple jackets patched up! I tend to just find a battle/campaign that I'm interested in, find an individual or unit that participated, and do some digging on wikipedia. I'm sure there are better ways.

there is a book series called "Battle Colors" that goes through every WW2 USAAF unit and includes all of their markings and squadron insignia. a great resource. also WW2 Combat Squadrons of the USAF by Maurer is the "bible"

Thanks for the recommendation John. I just ordered Maurer's book off of Amazon. Any suggestions for Naval Squadron reference books?

WW2 Combat Squadrons of the USAF is available online.

You need to be aware that this was compiled in the late 1950's, so the 'approved date' of the emblem needs to be checked. Even then, it is not 100% reliable, eg. 64th Fighter Squadron's emblem has an approval date of July 1956 but was used extensively throughout WW2.
