what is your feeling on this one ????
genuine or repro ?????
the seller was not a specialist in militaria, it was the only thing he had of this theme and no idea of what it was.
i think (i hope) it's an original; this flag has a smell of old cloth and looks to be ''fragile''
Are the tears from removed tabs, bar tacks? I've seen chits and flags sewn in as pockets but this probably wasn't. Not specific enough to assume it was ever in a jacket IMO.
Nothing wrong with a good ole 48 star US flag.
a2jacketpatches, what are you thinking?
Dave
A period parade flag that was stapled to a wooden stick, just saw a dozen of them at the flea market this morning. If you ever see one of these sewn into a jacket, the ends are usually folded over to hide the tears or rust marks from the staples. Or equally roughed up on the other side to make it even. Found a couple of flight helmets while I was there as well.
I know there are many Nazi flags that are similar. I have never seen someone try to play off a plain US flag sewn into a jacket but that shouldn't surprise me. I had a friend with a nice CBI A-2 that had a smaller chit used as an inside pocket. You could even see an oily spot where the holster/45 had rubbed on it.
Just wait until a few GWs age, have your patches, and add in some old flags? We're gonna see an onslaught of cobbled "authentic" jackets! It's coming sooner than we think, guys.
Pics of the helmets?
Hey Marcel, sorry to say your flag is just one of those they put on wood sticks for holidays in the US , they look old but are not,and the real ones that went onto jackets almost always have a fairly wide border of some type around them , your flag does not .
Still it's a nice one to frmae up with some patches/photos !
