Collar Press snaps

I have been looking at a couple of book's i have, and have noticed that hardly
anyone wearing a A2 has their collars fastened. An idea why this is.
My Aero A2 is due this week.

I've got a short neck. Buttoning the snaps pushes the collar up and doesn't give me as much room as leaving them unsnapped.
I imagine WW2 airmen preferred a less restrictive unsnapped collar when looking around for those attacking enemy planes.

I think the collar snaps were a throwback to the days of open cockpit flying to stop the collar from flapping about so it wasn't really necessary to snap them down in the WW2 era.

I like them as they look neater snapped. To me. Guess my neck is long enough to cope. I button down my shirt collars as well.

try driving a jeep with the windshield down...those collar points flap like the wings of a bird....
