I've come late to this one. I used to regularly buy jackets from Mars Leathers on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne in the 1980's-90's. They were still making this pattern of jacket in dark blue for our parking inspectors back then they said. They must have had a contract. Victorian motorcycle cops...
Not really old enough to be vintage. I remember the brand. In the 1980's a bunch of companies made a range of oilskin jackets on the back of the success of the movie The Man From Snowy River. I guess they were trying to compete against Drizabone and by extension, Barbour. Most of those companies...

This is not new. The Schott version of movie history has been contradicted before both on FL and here some years back. Don't know where the threads are but might be fun for someone with patience to find them.
Thanks guys. Anyone here know about the specs of the nylon used in the vintage jackets? I know little about this but I do know that good nylon is a great fabric.
From Wikipedia:
Nylon 6-6 is frequently used when high mechanical strength, great rigidity, and good stability under heat is...
In repo MA1's is this nylon material still used? Interested in what nylon teh Buzz repos use and if any of the current repos actually use flight satin any more or just a comparable nylon of a similar but thinner denier. I have a pretty ordinary new Alpha that seems to use a thinner nylon than...
