Trying to date this G-1 I just picked up.
Contract number is: DA-36-243-QM (CTM) 2134
Any ideas on how to decipher that?
has a Conmar zipper (silver teeth) so guessing late 50s on this?
Much appreciated,
thanks!
From catalogue:
Leather Bomber Jacket, Manufactured by Ralph Edwards Sportswear for the UNB Bureau of Navel Weapons; Contract No QM(CTM) 214-C-62. Size 44. with sewn patch of the Great Seal of the President.
Glad someone else noticed this...I was also shocked after reading this touching letter a few days ago. The last sentence is the most poignant "Wear it well and be proud of what it stands for" ... Some people just dont get it and by the looks of it would rather take a couple hundred dollars from...
I'm in my early twenties and have owned both a vintage Perry and JC goodwear. If your into vintage clothing/americana an A2 is a must!! I doubt people will be wearing originals in 70 years time, vintage clothing (pre 1960s) in general is running out by the day! not to mention falling to pieces...
Not sure how true this is... but I was told that the Blue deck jackets were only in production for a vey short while because of a number of friendly fire incidences that occurred. From a distance the dark blue deck jacket looked like German uniforms!
Never seen one sell for less than 1000 bucks...
I'm always suspicious of these flight jackets (and vintage clothing) coming out of thailand, they never seem to have labels and seem to be too cheap...this seller has a couple and i just found another tagless a-2 from thailand.
I am aware that large quantities of used american apparel was sent...
I like the suggestion of perhaps patching the damaged leather from underneath but please DO NOT start replacing knits, the zipper (even if it doesn't work) and other original vintage hardware.
You could have a lovely perspex box frame made for this jacket, mounted so you could see either side...
Sorry bit late to this convo, but its interesting that younger generations are being considered in regards to the future of collecting.
I'm in my early 20s and recently bought my first vintage a-2 (perry).
Why did i buy one? - Fashion :o
What people forget (especially on here) is that...
it says 6505, and has period correct Conmar zips,
the 'spare kit' is most probably British as I picked it up at a local car boot in London, no idea what it was used for though.
How can I found out about JO Niblock?
