Well, time for an update. I contacted Steve Sellers ( @STEVE S. ) about this poor jacket a while ago. He agreed to take it on and we discussed what it needed and what I wanted done with it. He was great about sending me picutres of options and progress reports. I got home to a package waiting...
Both of those examples have that vertical (EDIT: HORIZONTAL) line of stitching I was referring to. It continues from the top of the knit over to the zipper. Like I said, I'm not nearly as well versed on these as most here, but I've never seen a legit contract G1 without it.

I remember seeing this on ebay. I'm no expert, but I figured it was a repro that had a genuine label sewn on. Look at where the knits meet the leather on the front. I've never seen a G1 without a vertical (EDIT: HORIZONTAL) line of stitching that goes straight across, creating a "box" of those...
I think i'm going to keep it for the time being. Who do you recommend I ask about a new collar? Keep in mind that if you say, "Bill", or "Jim", or "Bob" I won't know who you're talking about (I haven't been around here as long as most of you!).
